With winter just around the corner, our thoughts are turning to a comfort from the chill and what better way to stave off the cold, and keep the shivers at bay, than by filling the belly with good food and drink?
Thankfully, Cape Town has always been a foodie heaven and new restaurants and eateries are constantly delighting us with their fare. Since the beginning of the year, plenty have opened their doors with a fine spread to be found across the Mother City.
Atlantic Seaboard and CBD
Pier
'Location, Location, Location' doesn't only apply to property and Scot Kirston's latest addition, Pier, certainly takes advantage of its vantage point on the Pierhead at the V&A Waterfront, with iconic views sure to complement the exquisite food in sensational fashion.
Led by John Norris-Rogers, formerly of La Colombe and Le Petite Colombe, patrons will enjoy a set of 9 or 11 dishes prepared by a world class team, with a myriad of flavours and dishes ranging from an integration of mussels, soubise and black forest ham to lamb and aubergine with Israeli couscous and harissa.
One Park
Gardens has always been for the cool kids, with its cool retro vibes mixing seamlessly with its more modern assertions and One Park is the perfect fit. An eatery (and bar) combined with a vinyl store - and an art gallery apparently on the way - you can get the best of all of it, tucking into delectable dishes, sipping on sublime cocktails, while picking up some records while you're at it.
Blondie
It's not like Kloof Street needed to add a new spot to its already bursting at the seams restaurant and bar collection, but nobody's complaining! Blondie opened its doors late last year and is already one of the coolest spots on the strip with its off beat eats and cocktails served to with a backdrop of loud, funky beats.
Yen's Vietnamese
Chef Yen Nguyen got started at the Oranjezicht City Farm Market and has since moved to the in De Waterkant, bringing his authentic Vietnamese fare to the trendy Cape Quarter. Egg-topped banh mi, spring rolls, rice noodle salad and more will keep you full, and with nothing topping more than R100, you can sample a wide variety of dishes. Order at the counter and take a seat - a feast awaits.
Bo-Vine Wine and Grill House
Something for the meat lovers, this new addition to the Camps Bay strip is carnivore heaven. With a butchery on site, cuts are presented to patrons to make an informed choice, with sides, sauces and salads. There is a reason for the 'Wine' in the name with an impressive list to choose from, ranging Stellenbosch to the Swartland and beyond.
Southern Suburbs
Homespun at The Andros
A new venture by Matt Schreuder, who opened the original Homespun in Blouberg way back in 2015, this is a welcome addition to the Southern Suburbs scene. Led by chef Chris De Jongh, the menu features such highlights as beef tataki, prawn dumplings and crispy gammon.
Wildsprout
Wildsprout Wholefood Café and grocer's second branch at the Constantia Village Courtyard is a haven for lovers of clean, green healthy foods. There's also a smaller area for you to stock up on your favourite fare for home-cooked meals.
Chefs Foodhall
Taking a foodhall approach to dining, Chef's Foodhall is set to open in May, bring together 10 kitchen stations, offering everything from ramen and pizzas to burgers and seafood. Opening in Cavendish Square, it promises a diverse offering and will no doubt bring plenty of Southern Suburbs vibes to the table.
Dimples Dumpling House
The second little eatery to pop up courtesy of Moses Tadros - the first located in Muizenberg - Dimples Dumpling House brings dim sum to Kenilworth, and by all accounts, the choices are endless, with everything from sticky BBQ shredded pork to marinated soy chicken to feast on.
Santorini
Bringing Greece to Newlands, Santorini (after the Greek island) offers exquisite tapas, wine and the festive atmosphere you've come to associate with the Mediterranean country. Lamb skewers, spanakopita, and calamari stuffed with chorizo... you won't find better Greek food outside of Greece.
