Summer heating up the Mother City

Category Area Profile

Summer is well and truly here and there are few better places to base yourself than Cape Town, with the Atlantic Seaboard, in particular, an epic place to set up shop for the warmer months.

With the deep blue waters of the Atlantic Ocean lapping on its doorstep and with Lion's Head and the Twelve Apostles providing a stunning backdrop, you would be hard pressed to find a more aesthetically pleasing place to call home. And while it is a sought-after location all-year round, it is in summer that the Atlantic Seaboard really kicks into gear, with a huge array of activities to get stuck into, day and night.

Of course, it's not only the city that has shed her winter coat, but the locals as well, with runners, walkers and families, with their dogs in tow, taking advantage of the longer, warmer days on the Promenade; the restaurants and bars along Victoria Road in Camps Bay and Somerset Road in Green Point are buzzing; and the Blue Flag beaches are packed with summer-time revellers chasing the first - and the last - rays of the sun.

With winter a thing of the past, the city has shifted the tempo and is alive with possibility, and there is something to enjoy for everybody, no matter where their interests lie. For nature lovers, explore the trails around the city, hit the surf at Llandudno, catch some rays at Camps Bay beach (before hitting the strip for sundowners) or drop anchor off Clifton 4th and say cheers to another epic day in Africa with a glass of bubbly.

If you're more of a foodie, then there is nowhere better to spend your days exploring culinary delights than Cape Town, with some of the best restaurants in the city based here, and if you want to explore further, good news, because 19 of the top 20 restaurants in the country are based in Cape Town and the near surrounds.

If you're looking to immerse yourself in the city's culture, experience something different or just want to cut loose, Cape Town is ready scratch that itch with incredible events planned throughout the summer months. From the Kirstenbosch Summer Concerts and the Galileo Open Air Cinemas to chilled sessions at Shimmy Beach Club and big summer festivals around the city, you won't need to search to find something epic.

There really is no place better than Cape Town.
