RONDEBOSCH
A Southern Suburbs gem, Rondebosch is a popular suburb for families, with its fair share of top schools, both government and private, a tight-knit community and located close to a number of parks and sports stadiums, including Newland Cricket and Rugby Stadiums. This quiet, leafy-green suburb is also located close to public transport routes, and a number shopping centres.
Shopping
The Riverside Mall and Rondebosch Shopping Centre are both based in the area, while Cavendish Square in Claremont is 10-minute drive away and here you will find a complete shopping experience. From tech and sporting equipment, jewellery and fashion to groceries and homeware, Cavendish has everything you need and more. The neighbouring Cavendish Close is also home to some lovely retail options, while there are a number of smaller centres dotted throughout that cater to smaller goods and emergency outings.
Restaurants and Bars
While Rondebosch might not be known for an abundance of local options, restaurants like the Hussar Grill for dinner and Starlings Café for breakfast and lunch are fantastic options and have a loyal local following, while a short drive will open up a myriad of options in neighbouring areas. Claremont and surrounds have a buzzing nightlife, with nightclubs like Tin Roof popular with the students, while Oblivion Bar and Café and the Home Bar & Restaurant offering sit down meals, before transitioning into a more social vibe later on. Newlands is also home to some fantastic restaurants such as the Italian Kitchen and Basilico, while Botany is a great upmarket cocktail bar popular with the older crowd.
Schools
Much like Newlands and Claremont, Rondebosch is another Southern Suburbs area that finds itself in prime catchment areas. Two of Cape Town's most prestigious boys' schools - Rondebosch Boys and Bishops (both Junior and High Schools - are based here, while Rustenburg School for Girls is also based in Rondebosch.
Hospitals
The Rondebosch Medical Centre Private Hospital is centrally located, while the world-famous Red Cross Children's Hospital is also based in Rondebosch. The Life Kingsbury Hospital in Claremont is a state-of-the-art hospital with 226 beds, 11 theatres, an accident and emergency unit with a doctor on duty 24/7, as well as state-of-the-art diagnostic and monitoring equipment.
