Cape Town City Centre at a glance

The Cape Town City Centre has undergone a remarkable turnaround over the past decade, with a large number of young professionals moving back into the city's residential areas. The Central City Improvement District (CCID) has done an incredible job since taking on the unenviable task of cleaning up the CBD, with crime down 90% - a rare feat in any global city!

With most urban home-buyers opting for property in the city centre due to the close proximity to work, there is also a tangible vibe in the Mother City CBD. With an abundance of coffee shops, restaurants and bars, and a burgeoning art scene, living in the city has plenty to offer besides just ease of commute.

Shopping

Long Street is a shopping paradise with a number of vintage and speciality stores such as Clarke's Book store, which is close to iconic, while Kloof Street is quickly becoming known as a fashion mecca with trendy fashion boutiques in abundance. If you're keen on market shopping, Green Market Square is always a hub of activity with local stall owners happy to haggle over the price.

Restaurants and bars

The Cape Town City centre would be the envy of most major cities through its sheer magnitude of offerings. Long Street, Bree Street, Kloof Street and most recently Loop Street all attempt to outdo each other with a growing number of world class bars and restaurants. Kloof House, Bacon on Bree, Ash, Rick's Café, the Chef's Warehouse, Bocca... the list is endless.

Schools

Two of Cape Town's top schools - St. Cyprian's Girls High and Herzlia - are located in the CBD, while there are also a number of foreign language schools based here, including the Deutsche Internationale Schule Kapstadt and Ecole Francaise du Cap.

Hospitals

Both the Cape Town Mediclinic and Christian Barnard Hospital are located in the Cape Town City Centre.
